Swim lessons finished this last Saturday. And while London will miss the pool, Cameron and I are both happy to not have the obligation of being there every Saturday for a while. I also look forward to not having to make sure the towels, swimsuits and swim diaper are clean by Saturday morning. Expect for one week, I think I ran this laundry load Friday night and/or Saturday morning every week!
The weather has, for the most part, remained beautiful, which means London wants to be outside more and more. The last couple of evenings we have gone out and played with Tulley and done yard work. We even have London throwing a rope left over from the puppies for Tulley to go fetch. Both love the extra attention.
London also loves going for walks in the evening. If we leave the stroller set up and she can access it, she will seat herself in it and try to strap herself in! We definitely need to make evening walks more of a routine in our house – especially since I am no longer running. The first trimester wore me out that I couldn’t muster the energy to run, and now I don’t feel I can resume my running routine until after Baby arrives.
I’m thrilled London loves being outside and I hope this love continues. It’s about time to get her water table set up for the season, so she’ll have a little more stimulation when we are out there too. We also intend to purchase her a few outdoor toys for her birthday to aid in her interest out here. If only our park was built already – she loves the slide and swings but we’re not planning on putting in a play structure ourselves. I guess for now, we’ll have to settle on driving to a nearby park for such playtime.

Weekend Update: Reno & Family BBQ
Whew, the week’s almost over and I am just now getting to our weekend wrap-up - the worst part is that it feels like Friday to me!
Saturday was a busy one for us, to say the least. We left early for swim lessons to stop in at the tile store to look at some options for the front room. We walked away with a few samples but upon viewing the samples on Sunday decided against them. As per my last post, we went with carpet instead.
London and Cameron then participated in her second to last swim lesson. For the first time, she wanted to get out about 5 minutes before the end of class. The cold water was getting to her. Plus, I think she would rather just play in the water with us then being pushed to do what the instructor has the kids doing at the time. Only one class to go.
From there we headed up to Reno. Thankfully, London slept almost the entire way. It was a little early for a nap, but swim lessons tend to take it out of her and she has been going down for Saturday naps a little earlier. We made it up to Reno just in time to drop in on the Gilles family and drop Tulley off for an afternoon of fun with her puppy Kieran.
Did I mention Tulley was patiently waiting in her crate while we visited the tile store and swim lessons? We couldn’t pass up an opportunity to see one of her pups. Poor thing was a little subdued or depressed all week last week once she figured out the puppies were gone. And yes, Kieran knew exactly who Tulley was when within 5 minutes of having mom around, was trying to nurse from her. He hasn’t nursed on her in over a month, or seen her in 3 weeks!
We’d meet back up with the Gilles Family for dinner that night. In the meantime, Cameron, London and I headed to North East Reno to pick up Cameron’s mounted Antelope Buck Head. It looks really good and then Taxidermist gave me a crash course in making faux rocks to decorate below the mount at some future date. Unfortunately, one of the main ingredients to do so is a bit pungent and not good for me to breathe in while pregnant so that project will have to wait – not that we don’t have plenty to do in the meantime.
Then it was back to the Gilleses for dinner, where we met the rest of the family, as both sets of grandparents came over as well. The whole family is full of lab lovers and got quite the kick out of seeing Tulley and Kieran playing. At one point Kieran cam inside and fell asleep under the table – all my petting didn’t faze him. We all agreed Tulley had worn him out. But of course Tulley wasn’t done and eventually came and woke him up for some more fun.
The best part for me was that Jason and Claire’s daughter Haley, who is 12, loves London, and spent hours entertaining her, sliding and running around the backyard, so I could sit and relax, which was good given Reno had sent me into a full blown allergy attack.
It was a long day and London did lose it at one point. We’ve never seen a tantrum like this out of her before. She was throwing herself all over and no matter what we did to try and calm her down, nothing worked. She literally just has to wear herself out. Finally, she communicated that she would like some Moo and all was well. We made it home around 11 PM and we all slept in.
Not that we could relax too much Sunday. We had to run to the store to get the makings for my summertime pasta salad for a family BBQ with Vicki’s Underhill Cousins later that day, just North of Sacramento. I was moving slow, which meant it took me an absurd amount of time to get the pasta salad made, but I did get it made in time to get it in the fridge to chill before we headed out.
We were actually a bit late as London took a 3 hour nap – we had to wake her up – which meant I found myself with a spare ½ hour and managed to sit, relax and get my toenails polished. This doesn’t happen for me like it used to and it drives me nuts!
We had a lovely afternoon BBQ with the extended family. Vicki and Joe were there, along with Vicki’s Aunt Shirley and Uncle Jim, their 3 sons and various parts of their extended families. The whole reason for the get together was that Shirley and Jim’s son Steve was in town. He lives on the East coast, and isn’t out too often it seems, as I have never met him. We also got to meet a somewhat new family member, Bethany, who married Jim & Shirley’s grandson, Alden last August.
Gary and Jill, who hosted the BBQ, live out near where I work on a beautiful piece of land, and own a horse and Shetland pony. London had a blast seeing both. Plus, Gary and Jill’s granddaughter Riley was there, who London had a fun time interacting with. Riley was gracious enough to let London play with her baby doll and stroller, which London pushed around the whole afternoon, even in the grass (with much frustration I might add) out to see the horses.
Gary and Jill also have a standard poodle, Pierre, who London couldn’t resist. The only animals London wasn’t sure about were the young chickens Jill had in the laundry room – they are just about ready to be transferred out to the chicken coop. Maybe next time, when they look more like Grammy’s chickens, London will be more interested. She loves to chase her Grammy’s.
After the BBQ, all three of us were done in and called it an early evening back at home.

Another Baby Update
Some of you may be wondering, for those that have visited our home, where the new Baby Cenedella is going to go? We have a 3 bedroom house – one room occupied by Cameron and Myself, along with Tulley and Kelsey most of the time, one room filled with London and one room dedicated as Cameron’s office.
Luckily, when we were looking at homes, we knew we needed more space than just a few bedrooms, kitchen and family room. Which is why we also have a formal living or dining room at the front of our home and a loft space. The loft space we intend to always use as a second TV room, and it is set up as such, coming in very handy when we 35 people over for Super Bowl this year.
The formal living or dining room is open to the rest of the house and when we moved in, it served as my office since I also worked from home. Then I got laid off. And the new job that I have landed and been in for over a year now requires that I work from the office most days. So my office space has become a collection-room of sorts, gathering anything and everything we bring through the front door but don’t feel like putting away. This includes food from Costco or purchases from Target or Petsmart or everything that accumulated in the car that we finally decide to clean it out.
Well, this informal dumping ground will be no more soon. Here’s the plan: Cameron is going to wall up my old office, adding in some beautiful French, glass doors we purchased, and just recently received from Home Depot, and turn this room into his new office.
Cameron’s old office we will then paint and decorate for London, which will include a big girl bed. We plan to move her into this room about a month before Baby arrives. It’s the bigger of the two rooms and with her room already set up as a nursery, and knowing there will be adjustment on her part when Baby arrives, we figured a new room would soften the blow.
Which means London’s room will become Baby’s room. If we have a girl, there will be nothing to change, except bringing the changing table back in and raising the mattress to newborn level again. If Baby is a boy, we have an easy plan to change the room from girl to boy – we’ll simply paint whatever is purple and aqua blue and purchase a baby bedding set in a Marine Life theme. I’ve even got the bed set picked out on Amazon in case. All that is purple in London’s room is the window seal, the trim to the closet, two shelves and a table that holds the humidifier. London will have to part with some books and stuffed animals that I passed down to her, but I’ll make sure she keeps her favorites.
So as you can see, we have a lot to do in not so much time. Baby is set to arrive in just 6 months!
Back to Cameron’s new office, the biggest step was purchasing and receiving the French doors. And last night we made the final decision and major purchase of the room. We’d been going back and forth on whether to leave the current carpet, remove it and tile the room or remove it and get new carpet. We quickly knew removing was the way we wanted to go as Melody, for the most part, has done her part in destroying the carpet and is why she is not allowed to sleep wherever she wants in the house but must be supervised (aka closed up in our closet).
At first we were really leaning toward tile, even after we found out matching the tile in our house would not be possible. We looked and brought several samples of alternatives home, but couldn’t decide on one, so we decided to investigate carpet. Last night we went to Lowe’s and we were disappointed with the experience and what we found. But I’d heard a radio ad for S&G Carpet and had seen that there was a store just down the road from our Lowe’s, so we ran over there to check them out.
We were met by a very friendly salesman who asked us some great questions and answered all of us. And up on the wall of remnants was this olivey-colored carpet. Cameron is drawn to green carpet, particularly the forest green variety, which I don’t care for at all. But this olivey color intrigued me. It is going to be his office. I could compromise on the green if he went with this color. Cameron liked it too. We bought the remnant by the time we walked out last night.
It’s a little bit bigger than we need, which is good. Never hurts to have some leftovers for patches, like when you dog chews a hole in the carpet!
We also learned that replacing the pad underneath would be a small cost, so we’re adding that in. plus, S&G will install it when Cameron has the frame up and ready. S&G also said they would be more than happy to look at the other hole Tulley has left in our carpet in the family room and probably be able to fix it with the remnants of the carpet in there at no charge!
Cameron and I have been trying to make an effort to buy local when we can and I am so glad we checked out S&G versus dealing with Lowe’s on the carpet. They were so friendly and amendable to the situation (the fact that we really don’t have a clue to the exact date we will need the carpet installed so they are holding it for us). Plus, they had a kids’ center set up with Duplo blocks! London had a grand time here while Cameron put down the deposit. London also just had a ball being let loose in a store. What harm could she do to carpet, so as long as I could see her, she ran around to her heart’s content. All the S&G people just watched and smiled while helping us make a selection.

Baby Bump Wednesdays: Week 14
How far along: 14 weeks
What Fruit or Vegetable size is Baby: A Lemon – tell me when is a lemon bigger than a peach! This does seem to be a more accurate size for the week.
Average Size: 3.4 inches, 1.5 oz.
What’s going on with Baby’s development: Thumb sucking, toe wiggling, kidneys, liver and spleen continuing to develop.
Total weight gain: still only 3 lbs. Won’t know again until my next appointment, which is my birthday. I don’t want to know in between.
Maternity clothes: Maternity everything – even the bebands are gone now.
Stretch marks: No new ones yet and using body butter to prevent
Sleep: Enjoying the last month I can sleep on my back. Maybe getting up once to pee. Definitely feel the extra body heat – I hardly need a blanket these days, though Tulley helps being completely snuggled up to me every night.
Best moment of this last week: Watching Tulley play with her puppy Kieran in Reno. Worst: Reno stirring up my allergies. Been laid out for a couple of days now.
Miss anything: Wine, Corona
Movement: None yet and probably not for a little while still.
Food cravings: WATERMELON!
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope!
Have you started to show yet: Oh yes but not enough for people to ask me when I’m due yet
Gender: still unknown – 6 weeks to go
Labor signs: None and better not have any. Planned C-section here we come!
Belly button in or out: In but its working its way out
Wedding rings on or off: Just my engagement ring on
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy and starting to feel more energized
Looking forward to in the next week: Completing London’s stocking as I have this baby’s stocking picked out to start (I'm soooo close to completeing London's!), getting the house even cleaner. Got sidelined with other projects last week and allergies this weekend that prevented any of this from happening last week.

The Garden gets planted…Just in time for a storm
After Sunday’s gorgeous evening, Monday evening was a bit chilly. Cameron was participating in a golf tournament that afternoon for work and barely made it home in time to put London to bed, and after going over to Mike and Kelsey’s to see if they were keeping Molly, the idea of planting the garden that night was just not in the cards.
Not so Tuesday night. It was a similar evening to Sunday. So when London and I returned from day care and work, respectively, all three of us headed outside to work in the garden. Cameron still had some rototilling to complete so London and I wandered the yard and played with Tulley while we waited. Poor London walked right into Tulley doing donuts, first getting knocked down and then hit in the head by Tulley’s head – luckily the kid bounces back real quick and Tulley quickly realized what she did, showering London with kisses.
Once rototilling was completed, we set out placing all the plants where we think they will do best and then I got to planting, while Cameron dug holes for the artichoke plants elsewhere in the yard and tasked London with putting away all the empty plastic containers I was throwing over the small green fence we have around the garden to keep child and dogs out.
During this time, Cameron started playing around with the other side of the yard, where we had sun flowers unexpectedly grow last year. He declared that he thought we had a rat burrowing over there, then thought he saw it and started to chase it with the shovel. Turns out it was not a rat (thankfully) but two toads! Cameron felt pretty bad after unearthing their home, but luckily the toads were no worse for wear, and we left them alone from there. One even came up to the back door one night recently, sending Jake into a tizzy. Hilarious to see, trust me!
After I was done with the garden, I moved over to the artichokes, followed by Cameron watering everything while I put London to bed.
When I came downstairs, Cameron had started BBQing hamburgers for dinner. Instead of turning the TV on while we waited, we sat outside and enjoyed another beautiful spring evening and chatted. Unfortunately, the lovely weather was not to last – by Wednesday evening the rain had come in and by Thursday night we confirmed that we lost 2 of our 6 corn stalks. Oh well, hopefully we still have a lot of corn from the 4!
As soon as this weather does stabilize, I suspect we’ll be spending more and more time outside. London loves being out there – we just need to get her some outdoor toys to occupy her, though for now, she is quite content walking back and forth on the stone path out to the dog run and grapes.
