A Wedding in Reno

On April 2, 2011 our friends Aaron and Nicole tied the knot at the Peppermill in Reno. We couldn’t be happier for the couple and we were looking forward to celebrating with them on their honeymoon in Cancun (they invited any one who was interested). We had planned to head up to Reno the day of the wedding and head home that same night, though we knew this would be hard given there would be people there we hadn’t seen in a while and for the fact that its always fun when a big group of our friends get together. But we had things to do at home, including packing, and we needed to be at the airport around 1 PM to pick up my parents who were coming in to watch London for the week. Vicki and Joe had come down for the day and night to watch London while we were in Reno for the wedding.

Mr. & Mrs. Moe

Of course that is not what happened. While sitting with friends at the Fireside Lounge, drinking Infernos, we knew we didn’t want to go home any time too soon and our time to depart was quickly approaching. We determined that’ some things didn’t need to get done before we left, so Cameron texted his mom to see if she was fine with us coming home in the morning. Thankfully, she was.

Drinking the Inferno

We started our vacation that night. Of course, when we went to get a room at 2 AM we were quite surprised to learn the Peppermill was booked. They told us the Silver Legacy and El Dorado had rooms, so we headed that way. We only made it a block – that’s when I saw the Motel 6 sign advertising rooms for $35.99. Why not, all we needed was a clean bed and shower? The place was pretty packed so we were a bit surprised that they were offering a normally $90 room for half price. But we weren’t going to question it.

This most of us all crammed in an elevator
The next morning we laughed at the fact that we looked like we were doing the walk of shame back to the car, being that we were still in our clothes from the night before. We made it back with plenty of time to get most things done around the house, pack, pick up my parents and have a nice dinner with them, before my dad drove the Moes and us to the airport.

Nicole's Signature Thumbs Up - We're all great!

The New Little Pickle Monster

Pickles are a staple in our house. We buy the huge jars at Costco, two or three at a time. So it was only a matter of time before London caught on. That she did. Right around the time she started to like solid foods (beginning of February). One day while Cameron was eating a pickle, she crawled over in curiosity. He offered her a taste. We got the cutest quizzical face out of her, but she went back for more.

She’s now hooked. The second she realizes one of us has a pickle, she comes cruising on over for a taste. She used to always make a funny face at first taste, before going back for more but sadly, the funny face is gone. Luckily, we did catch it on camera once, when we’d given her a slice of pickle in one of her mesh binkies.

We just had to share it with you. She also now cruises on over the second she sees me bring out the hummus or when I’m eating an apple. Her interest in food has definitely grown.

Our Little Pin-up Girl

It all started with a dress. A dress my mother had worn. A dress I had worn. A dress I still had. And a dress I wanted a picture of London wearing. Not just any picture, but a professionally done photograph.

I’d meant to take London for this photo shoot when she was 6 months old. By the time she was 8 months old, I was under the gun, as I knew the dress would not fit her much longer. It was getting a little on the short-side already with her long legs.

So the Friday before London happen to come down with the flu, Cameron and I packed her up, with the dress safe on a hanger and headed to Kiddie Kandids at Babies R Us in Folsom.

We arrived just as another family was finishing up a first birthday photo shoot. Perfect timing. London did fantastic, smiling up a storm and striking the poses. At 8 months she already knew to smile when she sees a camera and knows how to “smize”.

The photographer was having so much fun with her, she asked if we wanted to do some pictures and backgrounds as well as use some props. When we saw the old-fashioned washing tub and rubber ducky, we couldn't resist. Perfect for a little girl who loves bath time.

Really, she does. Put her on the floor of her bedroom with the door open and she makes a beeline for the bathroom, straight for the bathtub. We have to watch her closely to make sure she doesn’t tip over the edge and fall in to an empty tub.

In the end we got the shot I wanted and more.

Our Adult Valentine's Day

Cameron and I have never gone big when celebrating Valentine's Day, except for our first, when he took me to The Refuge in Yuba City after I spent the day waiting for him to complete his training so he could skydive solo. That was really our first official date.

Every other Valentine's Day has been spent at home with a home cooked meal. Since I have Valentine's Day off this year, I decided I would at least set the scene for a romantic dinner. So out came the table cloth, place settings and cloth napkins. I bought a bunch of red tulips at Costco and arranged them in a nice vase. Then I splurged a little on a bottle of Moet White Star Chandon, and even got out our champagne ice bucket. The finishing touch: homemade chocolate creme brulee. As you can see from the pictures, it was a lovely scene and well enjoyed evening.

Catching Up

Sorry for our silence. We're all getting over a few health issues in this household which has let everything go - writing, house, dishes. Hell we'd have stacks of dirty bottles lined up at the kitchen sink if we didn't keep running out.

A couple of Saturdays ago, London woke up at 4:30 AM for a bottle. Nothing out of the ordinary. But when I picked her up, she was burning up. She drank the bottle down and then we went downstairs to find Cameron. He was sleeping on the couch due to a constant cough - he didn't want to keep me nor wake London up. We managed to take London's temperature, which was 102. We take it under her arm which means her fever was even higher. With no baby Tylenol in the house, nor any idea what dosage we would be giving her if we did, we headed for the ER. By 7 AM we had been discharged with a diagnosis: a flu-like virus and a 102.7 fever. Off to Safeway we headed to get Baby Tylenol now that we had dosage recommendations.

London's fever began to break by Monday. That's when mine began. All the while Cameron was coughing. We've all recovered, Cameron having been diagnosed with allergy-induced asthma and being prescribed several steroids and inhalers. Somehow I ended up with a nagging cough as a result of the flu, making sleep difficult (I've spent a few nights on the couch myself lately), but London is back to her chipper, busy self.

Definitely have a few posts I need to get up here, including what Cameron and I did for Valentine's Day dinner, but I'll save that for another day, soon (I promise).

Tootles,
Sarah
